Dried fava beans
The fava beans may be conserved for extended periods at room temperature. Fava beans are a yearly herbal plant and belong to the family of legumes. They are gathered in the spring, in April and May. In ancient times, dried fava beans were considered food for the poor, as they were easily found and costed little.
Nowadays they are used in tasty dishes of the southern Italian traditional cuisine. They have noteworthy nutritional properties. Like many legumes, in fact, they contain iron, vitamins and other trace elements and are hugely beneficial to the human organism.
